Not exactly shocking

Half of all men and a third of all women lie about what they’ve read in order to impress others.

Now, I’ve never actually done this myself–there’s not really any need to, as I’ve read an awful lot, and I love having books I haven’t read explained to me by erudite individuals–but I have to say, I kind of love the fact that people do this.

Not only does it show that, no matter how deplorable the state of literature apparently is, according to some, people are still very much aware of the cultural value of certain writers, like Shakespeare.

Of course, Shakespeare isn’t that wonderful an example–everyone knows him, and most people can go, “Alas, poor Yorick!” or even “To sleep, perchance to dream!” Tell me about moving forests and a man not born of woman, then we can talk.

Another thing is that this bodes well for my love life. I read the classics, the contemporaries, and news sites! I’m set for life.
